How can I help?
Identify elephants in need of help If you see an elephant that is in need of rescue, whether in a big city or needing help elsewhere in Thailand, please get a mobile phone number and let me know - please fill in the contact form on this website. I can't promise to be able to do anything, but I will always try. Make a donation! It costs us about US$12,000 per year to keep one baby elephant, mahout, family and benefits - even after the extras the hotels provide so, if we are going to continue to rescue we do need cash! Any donation will go to help the rescued elephants or to help our other projects, you can either pledge towards a specific elephant or project (in which case we won't take your money until the deal is done - much time is spent in communication, negotiation and paperwork) or you can add to the kitty, in which case the money will be spent on fodder and care for any rescued elephants (the working elephants will always be cared for by their own work) or as an emergency slush fund in case urgent action is needed or be used in one of our 'bigger picture' projects to help Thailand's elephants as a whole. For English tax payers... It is recommended to make a donation through the website of the English charity elephant family.
There's
a link there on how to claim Gift Aid. A fun alternative to the straight donation... ...is
ele-dating, also through the elephant
family website, both Nong Dah and Plai Tawan are eligible for
dates, the money comes to me, the love goes to you! From the United States... For US taxpayers and web donations it is possible to make a donation through the website of the US charity Friends of Conservation, and use any of the many options listed on their "How you can help" link but be sure and put our name 'Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation' in the comments box. They can also accept wire transfers and their bank details are available either from the Friends themselves or from me. From Thailand and anywhere..! I can accept credit card donations from anywhere, the Foundation has its own bank account and is governed by Thailand's very strict donation laws as well as being independently audited. The transaction is made by with the Anantara or Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle free of charges and the money is transferred into the Foundation bank account in its entirety. Most of you know me, have been to the camp and know we do good work - those of you who don't please consider the next options as they are a great way to help. Come and visit our elephant camps Come & stay at Anantara Golden Triangle and take part in an elephant activity or stay with the Four Seasons Tented Camp - come and see what we do! Tips left in camp are pooled between the mahouts - no bad thing; the sweeter their life is, the more chance we can persuade others to bring their eles up. Yes, the Resort and Camp make a profit from you being here and do take a profit from the elephant camp, but without the hotels the camp wouldn't function. They built the camps and continue to make them work. Both hotels introduce guests to our donation and adoption schemes. Stay in any Anantara in Thailand All the Thai Anantara Resorts ask guests to make a voluntary US$1 donation per room per night to help our elephant projects - so you can help even if our green mountains aren't your thing and you would like to stick to the beach!
