Manau

Manau is the one of the sweetest elephants you'll meet, a street walker since she was separated from her mother, passed from mahout to mahout as each looked to get as much out of her as possible.

She carries a campfire scar on her back from a cold night somewhere when she got close to the mahouts' warming fire and is a clingy elephant, reminding us of Tawan when he first arrived - he never left Nong Pleum's side.

For Manau it is Moskva, the young tusker, that keeps her at ease as well as her mahout, K. Non, who never took her on the streets and, in his own way, was responsible for the rescue but taking over her in order to make his own way up here - our first case of a mahout finding his own elephant in danger as for a chance to join us.

Manau is cared for by Dr. John and Mary Holt.
