An overview of our Rescues and other Projects All the rescues and projects below are set out in chronological order and the reports were written at the time of the rescue - times change, babies grow up so for day to day stories of the adventures of our babies please check John's Rambling Elephant Blog. |

With this in mind we have agreed to take on a newly qualified vet, hopefully one a year, and help them to gain some expertise in and familiarity with elephants. The vet will spend one week a month in our rescue camp looking after our babies and the other three weeks helping the Thai Elephant Conservation Centre vets at their elephant hospital, their musth control or rescue teams. After the year's internship with G.T.A.E.F. the vet will then have the choice to permanently specialise in elephants or to go into the, more lucrative and perhaps realistic, general practise. Either way we believe elephants will benefit as the more general practitioners with some elephant experience spread throughout the country the less likely the specialists' rescue teams will need to be called out for relatively minor incidents. The current incumbent of the position is Dr Titiporn Keratimanoch D.V.M. (or Mor Cherry as she is universally known), a graduate of Chulalongkorn University Veterinary School and long time lover of elephants - we first met Cherry last year when she presented to us on neonatal care as part of her graduation of a small training course in Lampang. We have more elephants now than in the past and so Mor Cherry will stay with us for 15 days each month treating our bumps, bruises and sprains and spend 15 days helping and learning in Lampang.
