Wild Elephant Projects

While we’re dedicated to captive elephants, we recognise that the wild is an elephant’s true habitat. We support projects preserving Asian forests and their elephant populations, ensuring they thrive and maintain our ecosystem’s health, through both one-time contributions and ongoing initiatives.

Elephant Corridor In The Cambodian Cardamoms

Since 2014 we have been the sole source of funds for the protection of 18,000ha of standing forest in Cambodia, while our neighbouring concessions have been clear felled our part of the forest is home to wild elephants and many other endangered species. You can visit our not-for-profit Cardamom Tented Camp.

Khao Yai National Park

Community Rangers on the edge of Khao Yai National Park nightly manage the incursion of wild elephants into their neighbours’ croplands in a calm and gentle manner. Where other boundaries have seen aggressive elephants and deaths on both sides our project area remains calm.

Wild Elephant Protection in Salakphra Wildlife Sanctuary

Through the Elephant Conservation Network, we have supported initiatives to train National Park Rangers and have funded research on elephant behaviour within park boundaries. This knowledge aids our efforts to create elephant-friendly protected areas, reducing human-elephant conflict and its risks. Additionally, we have supported a study into the sustainability of an unprotected land segment as an elephant corridor, which is presently under review.

The Wild Elephant Count in Kui Buri Royal Project Area

This initiative is led by Thailand’s Wild Elephant Lover Club to obtain information on the number and demographics of wild elephants in Kui Buri National Park, a reclaimed 16,000-hectare area of reclaimed agricultural land in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. GTAEF supported financially and by participating in the count, also planting 2,000 trees for reforestation.

Royal Reintroduction Foundation

The Royal Reintroduction Foundation, under Her Majesty the Queen of Thailand, works to find scientific and practical methods to release captive elephants into the wild. In 2012, we donated Plai Tawan, one of our first rescue elephants to this project and receive regular updates on their elephants via http://elephantreintroduction.blogspot.com.

If you would like to meet our elephants and see more of our work, book a stay at the Anantara Golden Triangle Elephant Camp & Resort or Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle and take part in one of our educational activities.
